David T. Mckinney is originally from Alexander City, Alabama. He has lived in Birmingham for over 10 years, and considers Birmingham his home. He is a Professor at Jefferson State Community College in the Communication Department. He has also taught at Miles College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mr. Mckinney received his Bachelor’s degree from Troy University in Journalism, a Master’s degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham in Communication Management, and an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Alabama in Instructional Technology. Currently, he is enrolled in a doctoral program in Educational Leadership at the University of Alabama and will receive his PhD in 2018.
He is a member of the National Education Association and a member of the Alabama Education Association. He has completed the Emerging Leaders program with the National Education Association and traveled to Long Beach California and St. Louis to help resolve salary disputes and worked on the Degrees No Debt initiative on two community college campuses. He has also completed the Alabama Education Association Emerging Leaders program. On a personal note, he loves traveling and eating great food.
As an educator, he has served in the classroom, advocated for the educational system and he understands what is needed to develop bright and well-rounded students.
